Forest Service cabin 1997
Town Site Host Program
The Town Site Host Program is growing in popularity. The program grew out of our members’ suggestion that there be more of a presence in town to help out visitors and at the same time reduce the likelihood of vandalism. Members who wish to serve as hosts are provided with a guided tour of the town site to familiarize them with their roles and how to give good advice. Hosts receive use of one of the Forest Service cabins in the former railroad/parking lot area for the days they are there in return for representing both MCPA and the Forest Service. If you would like to spend a weekend or day of the week staying in the cabin and enjoying the experience of a “home” in Monte Cristo in return for offering a welcome to an interested public, or if you‘d like to be a volunteer wilderness guide for a hike into one of the three surrounding trails to check out conditions, please contact David Cameron at (360) 793-1534 or P.O. Box 107, Index, WA 98256. We typically have a training half day in June, followed by the tour, with first come, first served signing up for dates.
