July 22, 2011 At our last work party we improved the trail that was started last month around the river's new path. The river is running high and fast and crossing it can be extremely dangerous. The road is washed out in several places. May 26, 2011 One of the SAR helicopter pilots, sent an update on some roads when he flew on May 24. "The Big 4 parking lots are snow free. Snow patches from there until about a mile from Barlow where there is one or two feet of snow remaining. From the Darrington side, it is snow free to the South Sauk bridge. The Monte road has much snow and some slide debris all the way to the town site. Road is washed out in several places. First crossing at twin bridges has main channel right against the south bank." Access to Monte Cristo is a rugged hike at best. The MCPA website now hosts the waiver needed to obtain a key to the gate at Barlow Pass. The waiver can be downloaded here.
